History

FTL Solar, founded by Todd Dalland and Robert Lerner, is an independent spin off of FTL Design Studio, established by Todd Dalland in 1977. FTL is considered the world's leading tensile engineering firm and has completed several hundred distinctive architectural projects including:

FTL SOLAR — A Natural Progression

FTL Solar's founders united their expertise in developing super strength fabrics with leading edge thin film photovoltaics to create the world's first portable solar-powered pavilions and portable solar farms. FTL Solar's power producing structures convert the sun's energy into electricity. Beautifully engineered and aesthetically striking, FTL Solar's power producing structures are quick to install, disassemble, fold up and transport to anywhere on Earth. Today, our structures are the only pre-fabricated, mass produced photovoltaic (PV) power producing structures in the world.

As on-site, "off-the-grid" power plants, they produce electricity that can be used immediately, stored in batteries or sold back to the grid.

Our products can be scaled to shelter and power a range of mission critical applications. Clients use FTL Solar's structures to power communications centers, medical units, lighting, construction equipment and computers. In remote regions, our power generating shelters eliminate the need to transport and burn fossil fuels.

FTL Solar's PowerMods can outperform conventional crystalline PV panels in diffuse light conditions. Our ongoing R&D continuously generates cutting edge products. FTL Solar holds numerous patents and patents pending, including photovoltaic solar power structures, a photovoltaic solar battery charger and various tensile structure shelter designs.
